Matti Taneli Vanhanen

Matti Vanhanen is a Finnish Member of Parliament. He has served as Prime Minister of Finland and Chairman of the Finnish Center party in 2003-2010, Member of Parliament in 1991-2010 and again from 2015 on, Speaker of the Parliament from June 2019 to June 2020, Minister of Finance from June 2020 to May 2021, Speaker of the Parliament from 1 February 2022.

Vanhanen was a supporter of regional policy. In his opinion, the development differences between regions should be equalized globally as well as in Europe and Finland. The task of the public authority would be to enable life and living conditions even in the most remote areas. This would be an obligation for both the European Union and Finland. On the other hand, according to Vanhanen, centers with strong international interaction should be built, which would work in global networks. According to Vanhanen, the spearheads of our development would be sharpened in them. The task of the centers would be to pass on know-how not only to their surrounding areas, but also to Finland more widely.
